Project Narrative:

 

Since the project is located within the boundaries of the A-Street Historic District the design had to first obtain design review approval.  The key issue facing the successful proposal was the increase in the proposed square footage and associated massing required relative to the diminutive size and scale of the existing structure. Our solution paid close attention to the composition as seen from the street which helped us establish the appropriate scale of the visible edges of the addition and harmonize the parts of the project into a consistent whole.

Special Feature:

 

The two-story addition was layered spatially with a second floor balcony connecting the master bedroom suite and reading room which overlooked the living room.
